Some quick updates

While filling up the JEE 2014 form, please make sure you don't make any mistakes. JEE has clearly stated that you cannot make any changes in the form after you've submitted it!

However, since there are 16 fucking Lakh students giving the test, it is quite possible that many will surely make mistakes. One can still modify their forms, if and only if their reasons are valid and the dates for modifying will be in Jan'14 (not yet informed till now).

Again, If anyone doesn't know how to do it, make sure a senior is with you, you can't afford to make mistakes here! :)

Few of the most common Q-tiyatic mistakes:

1. People will end up sending applications by post! Yes, they'll think that cbse might not get their form, so they send it by post now. :/

2. Payments are only possible through specific banks. Please check the list before you proceed. :)

3. Make sure you're eligible for JEE Advanced, if not, you'll have to give your Board exams again and it'll be a total mess even if you clear Mains. (Only for those who want to study in IITs)

Do make sure you avoid them, later it's no use trying to cry stating the "3 Mistakes of my Life", not everyone is lucky and talented as Chetan Bhagat! :P

JEE Advanced- Guys pay for Girls! Officially. ;)

The JEE Advanced is all set to cost more. The reason for the increase is due to increase in application fees for all candidates. :/

Fees according to various categories:
Male general candidates- Rs 2000
Other Backward Castes (OBC) - Rs 2000
The fee has been hiked by Rs 200.

Scheduled caste, scheduled tribes and physically challenged aspirants -Rs 1000.  There has been an increase of Rs 100. I hope they don't start a revolt for this thing too. :P

Those taking the test in Dubai will have to pay US$220. The earlier fee for taking the test was US$200. I wonder if anyone cracks the exam from there or what. Thank God it's not Bangladesh, else they couldn't have afforded it only. :D

However, female candidates will not be charged for the test. :O
(Gender Discrimination Bitch)

IIT-JEE advanced 2014 aspirants will now have to give the entrance exam only in paper pen format. There will be no computer based JEE-advanced 2014. Wasn't it Ob? :/

What is the most mind boggling Maths question asked in JEE?

Few of the best questions that was asked in JEE till date.
(It's ob. that there must be plenty, but for now, let me pick a couple of them)
This question was asked in JEE 1999. It's a multiple option correct question. I later found that this one was closely related to a question asked in IMO few yeas back from then.

This question was asked in JEE mains 2005.

Now what I remember are two paragraph based questions one asked in JEE 2009 and other one in the following year. Both questions were from matrices and determinant ,which are considered to be the easiest topic during the time of JEE preparation.

People who appeared for JEE 2009 must have suffered lot of pain solving this paragraph I suppose. The problem would have been to decide this.
Every one will surely agree with me that this list is really a big one.
Some them which i remember are:

How can you leave 3 questions = 12 marks (that's a lot in JEE) on the other hand how can you devote so much time in 3 hours exam solving them ;)

The paragraph based question that came up the following year was even more mind-boggling. Even coaching institutes took long time to give a simple solution. As you might know that after JEE coaching institutes compete each other, not for result ;) but to produce the solution as fast as possible.

Rote learning a closed chapter, CBSE to begin open book era!

Ushering in a new system of conducting examinations, the CBSE has told schools across the country to implement open book examinations from March 2014 and has also released study material for the same.

The Open Text Based Assessment (OTBA) will first begin for classes IX and XI from the academic session 2013-14. For Class IX, study material has been released for all main subjects including English, Hindi, Mathematics, Science and Social Science, and for class XI, the material is for Geography, Economics and Biology. OTBA will be applicable only to these subjects in the next session.

However, open book examination doesn't mean that students will be allowed to carry textbooks inside the examination hall. CBSE's version of open book implies that students will be informed four months in advance about the study material on which the exam would be conducted.
The main reason behind implementing this new system is to strengthen students' analytic and theoretical skills by moving away from the trend of rote learning.

"The CBSE recommends that multiple modes of assessment need to be provided to cater to the varied abilities of individual strengths of learners. It is, therefore, decided to introduce an element of Open Text Based Assessment for Classes IX and XI in the March 2014 examination. These are meant to incorporate analytical and theoretical skills, thus moving away from memorisation." The CBSE circular states.

The Board has also reworked the marks distribution to accommodate OTBA scores in the main subject marks. The question papers in main subjects under Summative Assessment (SA)-II will be of 90 marks (70 marks for English and 20 marks for assessment of speaking and listening skills) based on prescribed syllabus and question paper design. The question paper in each main subject will have a separate section (10 marks) for OTBA.

The OTBA section will comprise text followed by two or three questions based on it. The questions will require students to apply concepts to situations given in the article, report, or case study and draw inferences or conclusions. The questions will be open-ended, extrapolative, inferential and will look at personal response justifying a point of view.

CBSE has also advised the teachers associated with the new system to "read, discuss and analyse the text material closely." "Teachers should guide students and encourage open responses in solving situations." the circular said.

JEE 2014: How will it be like ?

Major relief for 2014 JEE aspirants

There won't be much changes in the pattern and format of JEE Advanced 2014 examination

Now you guys must be wondering why IITs are not implementing subjective format, right?

Having a subjective test for IITs' entrance exam will require professors to manually evaluate answer papers. For an exam conducted in the last week of April or first week of June, it is difficult to evaluate answer-sheets of many candidates and to come out with results by June-end.
"It will delay the academic session across IITs. To conduct a subjective test for JEE Advanced, the centre will have to conduct the JEE Main exam in December and hold the JEE Advanced in April. It will involve many logistical changes, which is not possible." said the official. But a final decision on retaining the pattern in next year's exam will only be taken after the JEE Advanced 2014 chairman takes over the Joint Admission Board.

IITs might increase the number limit for JEE Advanced from 1.5 Lakhs to 2 Lakhs this year

Discussions were held on 2013's exam, where people shared their experiences with the new format of a two-level exam and gave recommendations for the 2014 exam. "Many officials believe there is no point in bringing about a change in one year. Any new system has to be given an opportunity for two-three years to sustain. In all probability, there will not be many changes this year." said an official.

IITs may increase the limit of candidates shortlisted from JEE-Main from 1.5 lakhs to 2 lakhs.

"This year, out of 1.5 lakh candidates only 1.19 lakh finally wrote the JEE-Advanced exam. If we increase the limit to 2 lakhs, we may get the desired 1.5 lakh figure." said a professor.

Keep studying till then. I know what you guys must be going through.

This is what generally happens while preparing!
